Lies of P
Lies of P is an exciting and innovative addition to the action RPG genre, scoring a solid 8 out of 10 on my personal scale. The game boasts a remarkable blend of gameplay elements, offering an experience that seamlessly combines the best aspects of FromSoftware's previous titles while introducing some refreshing twists of its own. While this isn't a FromSoft game, it boasts all the same systems but seemingly improved.
One of the standout features of Lies of P is its combat system, which is as fluid as any Souls-style game. The meticulously crafted combat mechanics allow players to feel in control of every swing and parry, making each encounter with enemies a thrilling duel of wits and reflexes. The performance of the game is a true marvel, with no noticeable FPS drops, and it runs smoother than any other game in the Souls series.
The game's attention to detail in its environments is commendable. Every corner of its world is richly designed, immersing players in a visually stunning and atmospheric setting. The meticulous craftsmanship extends to the adaptation of the Pinocchio story, which, while not groundbreaking, is handled in a cool and engaging manner. The overarching theme reminds me of Dishonored's art style, which for me is a great thing.
The weapon systems in Lies of P are a highlight, offering players a diverse array of choices for combat. I did find myself yearning for a dual-wield option, though that's not a feature in its predecessors. Weapon customization is impressive at first glance, but as you delve deeper, you discover that it comes with limitations, such as having to match damage types (slashing, piercing, etc.). This added depth adds a layer of strategy to character progression.
One of the pleasant surprises was the game's length, which exceeded my expectations. I had initially planned to stream the game for a few weeks (6hrs per week), but it's extended far past my initial planning. It's a title that keeps players engaged for an extended period, ensuring that the journey through its world feels worthwhile.
The challenge level of the enemies in Lies of P is generally well-balanced. However, there are instances where certain bosses feel excessively tanky or possess move-sets that put immense pressure on the player, leaving minimal openings for attacks when using slower weapons. While this can be frustrating at times, it adds a layer of intensity to the battles, making victory all the more rewarding.
Lies of P is, without a doubt, an amazing game that manages to blend the best elements of FromSoftware's previous titles. It's a nostalgic yet innovative experience, although some may miss the invasion mechanic from other titles. Nevertheless, it stands as a remarkable achievement in the action RPG genre, offering a thrilling adventure through a beautifully detailed world filled with challenging combat and a compelling narrative
